Numerology is the study of how numbers relate to a person's character, destiny, and life events. At its core lies the idea that a birth date, a name, or other meaningful numbers are not just a random set of digits, but a kind of code that can be read and interpreted. Numerology's roots go back thousands of years — numbers were revered as sacred symbols in Ancient Egypt, Babylon, India, and Greece. Over time, different cultures developed different schools of working with numbers: some centered on the birth date, others on the name, others on the connection between numbers and planets or archetypes. It is precisely from this diversity of traditions that the three systems behind Karmion were born: Pythagorean numerology, Vedic numerology, and Tarot numerology.
This system is named after the ancient Greek philosopher Pythagoras, who believed that numbers and the proportions between them underlie the structure of the universe — meaning that by understanding numbers, one can understand the laws the world is built on. The classic method of Pythagorean numerology is reduction: any number, however large, is added digit by digit until a single-digit value from 1 to 9 is reached, and it is these "pure" numbers that carry the core meaning. Each such number is believed to describe a specific set of character traits — for example, one is linked to leadership and independence, while nine is linked to wisdom and the completion of cycles. The best-known practical tool of this tradition is the Pythagorean square (psychomatrix): the birth date is broken down into digits that form a 3×3 table showing a person's strengths and weaknesses.
This system comes from ancient India and is closely tied to Vedic astrology. Its key difference from the Pythagorean approach is that here, each number from 1 to 9 is not just an abstract symbol but the embodiment of a specific planet and its energy: one is linked to the Sun, two to the Moon, and so on. It is believed that through the birth date a person receives the vibration of certain planets — and with it, their qualities, lessons, and karmic tasks. Unlike Western numerology, which mainly emphasizes the destiny number, the Vedic tradition considers several key numbers at once — the soul number, the destiny number, and the name number — and how they combine, support, or conflict with one another based on their planetary nature.
Here, numbers are linked to the 22 Major Arcana of the Tarot deck — from the Fool (0) to the World (21). Each arcanum is not a fortune-telling card in the usual sense, but an archetype — an entire life theme: the Magician represents beginnings and will, the Hermit represents solitude and wisdom, Death represents transformation and renewal. In Tarot numerology, a birth date (and sometimes other meaningful numbers) is reduced to a range from 1 to 22 to find "your" arcanum — an archetypal energy describing character, life purpose, and the lesson a person is meant to go through. This approach offers a more vivid, symbolic language for describing personality, complementing the plain numerical values of classical numerology.
Karmion is built on four branches of numerology: Pythagorean numerology, karmic numerology, Vedic numerology, and Tarot numerology. Each one offers its own perspective on what lies behind a person's birth date, and its own way of describing it.
On its own, each tradition gives only part of the picture. Pythagorean numerology maps out character and life path precisely through numbers, but rarely explains where those traits come from. Karmic numerology reveals the roots — the ancestral scenarios and tasks a person was born with — but is less specific for everyday use. Vedic numerology adds a deeper, more ancient layer of understanding of destiny. And Tarot numbers add imagery — something that makes a number easier to feel and remember, rather than simply read about.
Karmion weaves these four voices into one coherent story about a person: where one number names a character trait, another explains its origin, a third reveals its deeper meaning in destiny, and a fourth provides an image that makes the trait truly understandable.
